2 for One!
Insta Family. Meet 2 lovely dogs Danielle & Suzette.
“We are dependent on supporting each other, so please consider adopting us together. Our owners lost their home and couldn’t take care of us any more, so here we are waiting for the owner that will provide us with a safe loving home. We are very social and love everybody. Kids and other dogs too. We are housetrained and enjoy quiet time, toys and walks. People describe us as lap loving, social butterflies, curious, active and playful. We are a super addition to a family that is ready to love us. Please stop by and say hello. The SPCA is open everyday.”

Happy Tale of Andy – a Happy Tail! “Last

Happy Tale of Andy – a Happy Tail!

“Last summer we adopted Andy, our Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. After much effort on both of our parts to see the adoption through following his traumatic jaw surgery, he has become one of the most beloved members of our family. He is also quite fond of his two tiny Chihuahua companions. He loves his new Verdi home and thrills at chasing the deer out of the yard and is very good at that task. He is now healthy, happy and is an excellent walking companion.
Thank you for the humanitarian efforts at SPCA in helping animals. Thank you for helping Andy and all of the other animals you rescue. I would also like to thank the Veterinary Specialist (Sierra Veterinary Specialists) who repaired Andy’s Jaw.”
***From SPCA: We thank you so much for rescuing an animal from the SPCA! We are so lucky to have people like you in our community that see the value of saving animals lives. We are always thrilled to hear from our Adoptive Families. Thank you for taking time to give us an update on your lovely family.

Meet the SPCA Volunteers of the Month! T

Meet the SPCA Volunteers of the Month!
This grandmother and grandson team has been as asset to the feline department with their dedication to the cause. Tyler’s attitude was the 1st thing that staff members noticed about him aside from his gentle nature with the cats in the colonies. His ‘roll up the sleeves’ demeanor is much appreciated throughout the shelter and have come in handy on more than one occasion. Both have recently completed 30 hours and were presented their volunteer tee-shirt by the staff of SPCA.
His grandmother, Sally, has been a dedicated volunteer who makes sure that Tyler comes to the shelter everyone Monday to socialize with the cats. Now that they’ve completed dog training, they will be able to apply their compassion and love of animals to both sides of the shelter.

Rescuing is a Tough Job! By Lykira Fuent

Rescuing is a Tough Job!
By Lykira Fuentes, SPCA of Northern Nevada, K9 Manager

Every week, I go down to WCRAS to select dogs to bring into our shelter in hopes of getting them adopted. It’s something that I both dread and love to do.
It is so hard to go down there and not be able to take them all in, but those you do get to save help make everything worth it. Sometimes I make decisions I shouldn’t, such as bringing one or two more dogs than I have space for, or taking in a dog that will require a lot of time and patience to work with. There is always something in those cases that I just can’t pull myself away from.
The last rescue I did was no different. As I was getting ready to leave WCRAS, the van loaded with new rescues, I was stopped and asked to look at one more. I really didn’t have any space to bring in one more dog, but the staff there assured me she would be the sweetest dog I’d ever meet. So, I went and met her. As I turned the corner, I quickly fixed my eyes on an old Border collie, cuddling up with one of the kennel attendants. I knelt down to say hi and she promptly came over to me and smothered me in kisses and affection as if she had known me her entire life. I could tell that this dog had been through some trauma. Her coat was dry and brittle, covered in foxtails, mats, and God knows what else. Hanging from her chest is a cantaloupe-sized tumor and several other small ones alongside it.
Against my better judgment, I couldn’t pull myself away from her so I decided to take her with me. Even though I knew that this 10-year-old girl wouldn’t have a lot of time left, I just couldn’t leave her there. The next day, she was scheduled to have the tumors removed and to be spayed. It’s never surprising but always sad when an old dog comes in and hasn’t been fixed. The vet operating on her said that she is what a typical over-bred female looks like. This poor girl probably spent most of her life pregnant, and now that she is old, tossed aside like an old appliance that stopped working.
I named her Nemamiah, who is said to be an archangel. He protects those who struggle for justice and for the rights of those that cannot defend themselves, such as children and animals. He inspires us to have empathy in our hearts. My wish this Christmas is for this little angel to make a full recovery and find a loving home, even if it is just for a short time. Nemamiah has nothing but love in her heart and just yearns to be near someone who loves her.
Every life matters and every life deserves love in it. Forget all the hustle and bustle this Christmas and be a part of something truly special: Adopt a special-needs dog who otherwise would have never known what it means to be loved and cared for and you will experience the true meaning of Christmas.

With the holiday approaching there are t

With the holiday approaching there are times we receive gift cards we will never use.

SPCA accepts donations of unwanted Gift Cards year round. We use them to buy supplies for the shelter and the animals that we care for.

Did you know it costs about $370 to rescue each animal that we rescue? It seems like alot of money however we think every penny is worth it. especially when we can place an animal in a forever home and rescue one in its place.

Some gift cards we could use would be:
Target
Petco/Petsmart
Walmart
Lowes
Home Depot

Thank you for supporting everything the SPCA does. Xoxoxox http://ow.ly/i/nAGG
